It’s simple. Got 4 cylinder with an active very small trannie fluid leak. Dies when in neutral. Does anyone have any ideas?
That must be weird one must have been fun for sure. There might be little transmission fluid leakage which may result in low pressure and this could be the reason for stalling when in neutral. Do you know whether it has been long since you last checked the fluid level?
It will also be interesting to find out the condition of the transmission and its worth.
If there is a leak, there always might be some deeper problem.
I agree with @Harper. This is true since transmission fluid leaks will impact on the performance of the car. If the amount is a little low, the engine may stall or slip, while, at a high amount, it will result in increased slippage. Just take your car to a mechanic to check whether the transmission is damaged. Good Lucky.
Fix the leak first @Isabella, and see if the stalling issue persists.
Does the car display any codes? Even though it’s from before OBD2 became standard, is the check engine light on?
How does the car stop running? Does it sputter or simply shut off? The issue could range from a vacuum leak to an electrical problem. You haven’t provided enough details to make a proper assessment.
