1999 Chevy Blazer... any long-term owners out there?

Any of you guys ever owned a Chevy Blazer for an extended period? I’m looking to pick one up as a winter beater, and honestly, I don’t know what usually goes wrong with them. Any insights would be great!

Had a 2000 S10 Blazer for a few years. They’re actually fantastic for reliability, but age can be their weak spot. The 4WD transfer case (if equipped) needs maintenance that owners often skip. The 4WD switch can also be a sore spot but it’s cheap and easy to replace.

@Remy
What do you mean by maintenance? Is it something complicated?

Not too complicated, just regular fluid changes and checking for leaks. It’s easy to forget, but it’s important for keeping it running smoothly.

Yea, I love the way they look in the snow honestly. As long as it can get me to work on those snowy days, I’m happy. The one I’m looking at is 4WD. If the transfer case goes bad, does it only affect 4WD or other things too?

@Van
I’ve seen them with a dead transfer case still going fine in 2WD mode. As long as it’s just the electronics or solenoids and not something physically broken, you should be okay. Just keep in mind it usually means no true neutral.

The ‘spider injector’ can be a pain as it ages. It can leak fuel, but it’s not a huge deal to replace with a proper setup if needed.

Good to know! Is it easy to find parts for these?

@Remi
Yeah, parts are generally pretty available. Just make sure to check what you need before buying.

Rust can be a big concern if you’re in a rust belt state. Especially around the leaf spring hangars, keep an eye on that.

Overall, they’re comfortable and have decent power. Just make sure to do your research and check for any common issues!
