Yesterday, after about an hour of driving, I noticed that the cooling fan took much longer than usual to shut off when I turned off the truck (I’m in MI, so it shouldn’t be running hot). Today, when I started the truck, the cooling fan was immediately on high. I drove around for 15-20 minutes, but the coolant temperature gauge never registered anything. There are no check engine lights on at the moment. Could this be a coolant temp sensor issue, or might it be something else?

I had a similar issue with my 2014 Silverado during the cooler months in Texas. The problem turned out to be a failing thermostat. It couldn’t accurately read the lower temperatures, so the fans kicked on high as a precaution.

Yup. Replace the temperature sensor and thermostat and you willl be good again. Both are easy too. Just have a catch can for the residual coolant. Also, open the reservoir cap to release line pressure first…with a cold engine.
