I purchased a 2016 Silverado with 115k on it. Before purchasing, I did read that the 16-18 have a few transmission problems, but I had a transmission service done by the dealer and had it driven 5 hours down to me with no issues. I was driving for about an hour and everything was normal, but when I hit stop-and-go traffic, the truck would rev but barely accelerate. I parked it for a few minutes and then started driving again, and it seemed to be pretty normal.

Unfortunately, the transmission will most likely go. Can you hear the pump win? RPMs are increasing, and the truck is shifting slowly.

I could certainly hear a whining noise, and the rpms were going higher. I’ve had the truck for just four days now, and it’s a three-day weekend, so I’m returning it to the dealership on Tuesday and will probably just take it from there.

Check the fluid level first. It’s possible that the dealer didn’t refill it properly, resulting in a lack of fluid. Otherwise, it’s likely a failing transmission. If you have a warranty, contact the dealer to get it returned. If you don’t, call and discuss the issue with them. Many dealers will pay for parts or labor to resolve the issue.
