I drive a 2021 Chevy Tahoe and I just had lifter failure with the vehicle but am over my powertrain warranty by 3,000 miles. It is at the dealer getting fixed and I asked if they would consider covering it under warranty since it’s a known issue. The dealer said they would see and admitted this was a very common occurrence but wouldn’t confirm if it would be covered. Has anyone had any experience getting the lifter issue covered outside of warranty? If so, what did you say to get it covered? Thanks.
I work at a dealer and if you have a decent relationship with a dealership, they may offer to cover half or goodwill it since you’re not that far out of warranty. Worth asking, if not take it to a small shop and have the work done. It’s a common job and doesn’t require any dealer software or specialty tools, so no point paying extra.
Ask them if they could run a PET on it. It stands for policy evaluation tool. If you have been servicing your vehicle there, that helps. They may come back and goodwill half or more, or possibly nothing. But I would at least ask for some assistance.
I think it’s worth pushing a bit since you’re so close to the warranty. If they know it’s a common issue, they might be more inclined to help out.
If you have any documentation showing that you’ve kept up with maintenance, it could strengthen your case too. Just something to think about.
Good luck with it. It’s frustrating to deal with these issues when you’re so close to warranty. Hope they come through for you.
