2022 Suburban engine shut down while driving... any ideas?

I was driving my 2022 Suburban RST, turning and accelerating when I felt something was off. I heard some noises from underneath, so I parked right away, and the engine just shut off. Now, it won’t start or even crank. The electronics are working fine, but there was a weird fuel smell for the past few days that I hadn’t checked out. Even now, while I’m waiting for a tow truck, I can still smell gas in the car. Any idea what might be going on?

That sounds pretty concerning. Ignoring a gas smell is probably not a good idea. Have you checked for leaks?

Could be a fuel pump issue. Sometimes they fail and can cause the engine to shut off unexpectedly.

Yeah, I was thinking that too. I just hope it’s not something more serious.

If you can smell gas, it might be a leak somewhere. Definitely need to get that checked out ASAP.

Has the check engine light been on? That could give you some clues about what’s wrong.

No check engine light came on before it shut down, but I guess that doesn’t always happen.

I’d recommend having it towed to a mechanic. They can definitely diagnose the fuel smell and the starting issue.

That’s the plan! I just hope it’s not too expensive to fix.
