I’m thinking of buying a 2025 Equinox AWD LT. I’ve noticed there’s an AWD button to the left of the steering wheel. If the AWD button and indicator show AWD, does that mean I’m really running AWD all the time, or is it just 2WD that kicks into AWD when needed? It seems odd to not have automatic AWD on a small SUV in 2025.
So the all-wheel-drive system is always on. Automatically all-wheel-drive systems intelligently distribute power toward all wheels individually as needed. The all-wheel-drive button allows congruent distribution power for each wheel.
I think it usually means it can switch between modes based on conditions. Some systems allow for more control with the button, which is nice.
Most modern SUVs have some form of automatic AWD these days. It’s weird they’d make you switch it manually.
