Anyone have any ideas what might be wrong? I started my 1995 Chevy C1500 and it seemed like it struggled to start. I shut it off and tried to start it again, but this time it wouldn’t crank at all. I assumed it might be a battery issue, but the battery is actually good.
When I connected the negative post of the battery to the starter with jumper cables, it did start up. However, it sounded like the starter was staying on longer than it should. Any advice or ideas?
Sounds like you could have a grounding issue. Check if the ground wire from the battery to the frame or engine block is secure and clean. Corrosion or loose connections can cause starting problems like this.

Thanks, Mike! I’ll check the grounding. If it’s dirty, is there a specific cleaner I should use?
Yep, use some electrical contact cleaner and a wire brush to clean any corrosion off the connections. Just make sure everything is dry before you try starting it again.
I had similar issues with mine, and it turned out to be the starter solenoid sticking. If the solenoid is sticking, it might explain why it sounded like the starter was staying on. Replacing it could help.

Good to know! Do you think replacing just the solenoid would be enough, or should I go for a new starter?
If the starter’s in good shape otherwise, just replacing the solenoid might work. But if it’s old or has given you issues before, a new starter could be worth it.
