I bought a new 2022 Silverado approximately four weeks ago. After putting 900 miles on it, the truck left us stranded on the side of the road. We had it towed to a dealer, where they diagnosed a faulty fuel injector with a 4-5 month lead time for replacement. Despite initiating a case with GM customer care, there has been no progress. As a business owner relying on my fleet of trucks, this downtime is unacceptable. Compounding the issue, I sold the truck this Silverado replaced, leaving me in a difficult situation.
I’m curious if anyone else has encountered a similar issue. This experience has soured my opinion of GM, and I have no intention of doing business with them again. Despite the reliability of my other three GM trucks, this incident has led me to the decision to sever ties with the brand. My primary desire now is to return the defective truck and move on.
I’m firmly against GM vehicles, whether new or from the 3,000-mile oil change era.
My 1989 GMC Jimmy with a V6 Vortec engine had elongated cylinders at just 76,000 miles.
My 1998 Tahoe fared no better. At 79,000 miles, it blew its third intake manifold, and the rear AC stopped working with repair costs for the lines alone estimated at $800. It also had multiple electrical issues.
Since I don’t know much about tiny trucks like this, I would assume they’re waiting for the item. Maybe it’s a newer or distinctive design? At work, we were forced to wait nearly three months for a single CAT wiggle wagon strut.
I own about thirty-five pieces of equipment from four different brands. Some of my newer items had experienced early hour failures, but the dealer fixed the problem in a day.
Nothing has ever failed on me this early, and the dealer has never been unable to fix a problem swiftly. It takes a very long time to get something back that you paid $60k for—four to five months. I’m not going to purchase components online to fix a new truck that GM ought to be fixing.
GM is facing a crisis right now. I had a similar ordeal when my transmission failed. Stay persistent with them. Demand updates daily and don’t hesitate to be assertive. I dealt with the same excuses for 2-4 months due to parts shortages. However, I managed to resolve my issue in just 5 days. As a consumer of their brand, you deserve better than being ignored. If you haven’t already, start calculating the money you’re losing each day. Let them know you’ll hold them accountable for those losses. Interestingly, as soon as I mentioned legal action, they suddenly had everything sorted out. Hang in there. When my warranty’s up, I’ll be ditching this car and never looking back. Tacos for everyone. #teamtoyota
