When Apple CarPlay first came out and was usable, the wireless feature was disabled. After two years of ownership, I have never paid for Onstar.
I think it’s talking about the wifi setting on your phone not the vehicle. At least that’s been my experience with other brands.
Although I’m not aware of any built-in wireless capabilities, I do have some aftermarket dongles for my cars that connect to my wifi using both Apple and Android devices. This could be, in my opinion, due to the volume of data being transferred.
When I pair the dongle with my phone via Bluetooth, the dongle and phone instantly create a wifi connection so that I can use the Android Auto functions.
Activating the in-car WiFi hotspot is a prerequisite for using wireless CarPlay. The phone streams to the car in this manner. Restart the car’s WiFi by going into the OnStar settings on the head unit.
No, an active OnStar subscription is not required. To communicate with the car, your phone will utilize WiFi, and to access the Internet, it will use cellular data.
Now, if the car has an active data plan, either from AT&T or OnStar, the phone can use the WiFi and the data plan for the Internet.
My WiFi was turned on and I haven’t changed any of my settings it just randomly did it. Hasn’t worked since
