I just bought a 2020 Chevy Spark from Carmax with 39k miles on it. The very next day, the check engine light popped on, and it felt like the car had no power. I’m taking it back to Carmax on Saturday, but is this something common with Sparks? Do they throw the check engine light for random things? Or should I think about getting something else depending on what code it’s giving?
No, that shouldn’t be happening a lot. The check engine light isn’t supposed to come on frequently.
I bought a 2020 Spark from Carmax too, mine had 32k miles back in 2022. I haven’t had any check engine light issues while driving. The only problem I faced was the battery acting up when it was dying. After I replaced it, the car has been running great. I’m currently at 78k miles and still no issues.
The code I’m getting is P0137, which is an O2 sensor issue.

That’s not really normal. If you just bought it, they should definitely fix that for you.
Mine does that too when I go on long road trips and keep a constant speed of 70 mph. The check engine light turns off once I stop driving long distances though. Not sure why it happens but it’s pretty annoying.
I feel pretty lucky. I’ve never had the check engine light come on, and I’ve driven my Spark long distances with no problems.
We bought a 2021 Spark brand new, and it’s my wife’s car. It’s been 3 1/2 years and the car has only 6,500 miles on it. We’ve never had any error codes or check engine lights pop up.
