I have a 2014 Chevy Spark, and I keep running into this weird problem where my key gets locked in the ignition every time I drive. I heard it might be the automatic transmission shift lever causing it. The only way I can get the key out is by removing the battery cable, but that’s not ideal. I’m trying to order a new shift lever, but I want to make sure that’s really the issue. Anyone have any insight?
Is it the button on the shifter? Cause on my 2014 Sonic, it sticks sometimes. I just pull it out when it happens. I try not to press the button too hard when shifting.
No, I don’t think so. I’ve taken the whole shift assembly off, and it’s just a stick now. Also, does anyone know where I could get a diagnostic? Like Christian Brothers or something?
How old is the battery in the car? A battery with low volts can cause your key to get stuck in the ignition in some vehicles.
What do you mean by the button sticking? Is it hard to shift gears?

Yeah, sometimes the button doesn’t pop back out, so I have to pick it out. Just a hassle, you know?
Have you tried checking the wiring around the shift lever? Sometimes loose wires can cause weird issues like that.
