Bearing issues?

Good evening everyone,

How many people across the GMC/Chevrolet forums or here have suffered bearing problems with the 6.2? What would be the failure rate? Kindly let me know.

Had bearing issues on my '15 Silverado 6.2L around 80k miles. Started hearing a knocking noise, turned out to be a spun bearing. Ended up needing a full rebuild.

Ouch, how much did that set you back? Did you have any mods or was it a stock engine?

@Ori
About $4,500 for the rebuild. It was stock, no mods. Just regular maintenance. Heard others have had similar issues, but mostly on higher mileage trucks.

I’ve got a 6.2L with 120k miles, no bearing issues so far. I try to stick to the maintenance schedule, and so far so good. But I have seen a few posts about bearing failures on other forums.

Same here. 2018 Sierra 6.2L with 95k miles. No bearing issues, just regular oil changes. Knock on wood…

@Ellington
That’s good to hear. Do you use synthetic oil or regular?

Always synthetic, usually Mobil 1. Helps keep the engine running smoothly.

I’ve seen a few 6.2s with bearing issues but it’s not super common. Usually happens if oil changes have been skipped or done with lower-quality oil. I’d say it’s less about the engine design and more about how it’s maintained.

@Milan
That makes sense. Especially if these engines are being pushed hard and not getting the best care. Had a friend with a 6.2 that he abused, didn’t end well.

Would you say using an oil additive could help prevent these issues, or is that just snake oil?

@Skyler
Oil additives can help a bit, but nothing beats regular oil changes with good quality synthetic oil. Additives are more of a band-aid solution if you’ve already got wear.

@Dustin
That’s interesting. Did you notice any warning signs before the problem happened?

@Dustin
I’ve seen a few cases pop up on forums. Seems like a hit or miss. Some have issues, others run forever without a hitch. Guess it’s just luck of the draw.

Yeah, luck definitely plays a role, but good maintenance seems to make a huge difference.
