Chevrolet Traverse (2024)

What’s your honest take on the Traverse? I’m looking at the Z71 model and would appreciate a list of pros and cons. I just got back from my local Chevrolet dealership, where they had a Z71 marked as not for sale. The salesperson mentioned that there’s a significant issue with the Z71, something related to torque shredding? I’m not sure what that means. Anyway, they advised me to avoid the 2024 Traverse Z71 until the problem is resolved.

For reference, I currently drive a 2023 Nissan Pathfinder Platinum.

It’s still too early to make a judgment. It has both a new engine and a new transmission, and we haven’t had one come in for its first service yet at our shop, so assessing their reliability will take time. I’m not too excited about adding another small displacement turbo to the lineup, and I have concerns about GM’s ability to create and implement a transmission without widespread issues.

That said, they are impressively equipped for their price. The Z71 is priced at $50,000, which is what we paid for our 2019 LT.

I own a 2015 Traverse, which I purchased because our Subaru had difficulty towing our popup camper up hills. It comes with a towing option, and I never even noticed I was towing anything! The popup weighs just 900 lbs. My only concern is that the battery is somewhat underpowered; it drains quicker than I’d prefer. Honestly, I would consider buying another one because I like it.

We’re two generations past your car, and there’s not a single part on the 2024 Traverse that can be swapped out. I also had a first-generation Traverse, but unlike you, I wouldn’t buy another. I currently own a second-generation Traverse, and I would definitely replace it with another one since it’s a much better vehicle. However, I wouldn’t consider buying a third-generation Traverse yet because it has entirely new, untested technology and components.

The dealer advised staying away from the Z71?? :fearful:

Steer clear of first-year GM products at all costs.
