Chevy Cruze Years To Avoid

I’ve been eyeing a used car and considering a Chevy Cruze. I’ve heard conflicting opinions about which model years are reliable and which ones to avoid. Could anyone who has owned or researched Chevy Cruzes provide insights on the most dependable years and any specific issues I should watch out for? Your advice would be really helpful as I weigh my options.

Generally, avoid 2011-2015 Cruzes as they have higher reported issues with transmissions, engines, and coolant leaks. If you’re set on a Cruze, consider 2016 or later models, which tend to have better reliability ratings.

For three years, I owned a 2012 Cruze. It was a never-ending list of issues. There are numerous recognized problems with those cars, cheap parts, and poor construction quality. You may obtain a far more dependable car for the same amount of money. Never again would I purchase a Cruze.

I’m a mechanic at a small independent shop. Every Cruze that comes in is a piece of junk.

Compared to later model years, there were less documented issues with the Chevy Cruze in the 2011 and 2012 model years, according to several owners and experts. Reliability problems with the engine and transmission were common in these older models. But it is always a good idea to do extensive research on particular model years and take into account things like mileage, maintenance history, and any recalls or upgrades made by the manufacturer over time.
