Chevy Impala 2003 Car Won't Start but Battery Seems Good

Hi Chev fellaz

I need some help with my husband’s 2003 Chevy Impala. The car recently wouldn’t start at all—it wouldn’t even crank. We also noticed that the radio and automatic door locks aren’t working.

We took the battery to an auto store, and they said it was low, so they charged it for us. However, that didn’t solve the problem. The headlights and dash lights still work, which makes me think the battery isn’t completely dead.

Does anyone have any ideas on what else could be causing this issue? I’d really appreciate any insights or troubleshooting tips. Thanks in advance

Had a similar issue with my old ride once. If the battery’s good, it might be a problem with the ignition switch or maybe a blown fuse. Check those out. Also, give the starter a tap while someone tries to start it—might do the trick…

Use a voltmeter to measure the voltage at various points in the wiring harness. The PWR/TRN relay could be faulty, as it supplies power to the ignition system. If this relay fails, the car won’t start. Additionally, if the relay feels hot, it’s another indicator that it might be defective.

I could be experiencing ignition system problems, such as issues with the ignition switch, ignition coil, or spark plugs, which could prohibit the engine from starting. If the ignition system fails, the engine will not receive the necessary spark. Neutral Safety Switch If your car is automatic, the neutral safety switch may prevent the vehicle from starting if it is not in the proper gear (Park or Neutral).
