My car is in the shop to get the remove & replace throttle body and remove & replace oxygen sensor. However, the shop also listed these things to get fixed but quoted me a crazy amount. Are the declined jobs really necessary for my Chevy Malibu? Will it mess it up if I don’t get it right now
BG fuel system 3 can pack is $28, cost. Iridium NGK plugs are $10-15 apiece, cost. Cabin filter is $7. Without a DTC, why does it need an O2 sensor or throttle body? To pad the bill instead of having integrity
Oh don’t worry some real ‘mechanic’ will be along soon to tell you that one time some idiot customer broke his car by attempting these difficult repairs and therefore no one should ever attempt to work on their own vehicle
I’ve seen people mess up simple repairs, myself included. I still think people should work on their own cars
Realistically, the tune up (plugs and air filter) should be done around 100k. This is a normal service and will help keep your car running well. This might run 300-400 on a 4 cylinder engine and a few hundred higher on a 6 cyl engine. The BG is optional, it’s a service shops can provide. You can Google the company to learn what it does. We sell their products at our shop. Not needed or required. We charge around 350 for this service. The transmission flush, 2 schools of thought. 50% of techs and shops will tell you it needs to be done. 50% will tell you not to mess with it unless there’s a problem. I consider this service optional, and it can be pushed to a later visit if you are looking to cut the cost down
@Sky
Thank you so much for your response, it is really helpful. Do you think I’ll be okay with not doing the declined jobs for the next couple of months

As long as you don’t have a check engine light on for a misfire, you can continue to drive without these services done. Mind you, I’m advising over the internet and don’t know the full condition of the vehicle
Do you need any of it? A throttle body and oxygen sensor at 80k doesn’t seem right to me. Most of that should be done at 100k and the throttle body is replaced when it goes bad. 200k would sound more reasonable to me
