Chevy Quality Control?

I built and ordered a Chevy Traverse through a dealership, and now I’m being told that the car has been pulled for ‘quality control.’ The dealership informed me that the vehicle has been sitting in the shipyard since 9/24, and it’s now 10/16. What’s frustrating is they can’t give me a time estimate for when I’ll actually receive the car. They mentioned that it could take anywhere from 1 week to 1 month, but the uncertainty is really starting to bother me. I’m now left wondering if I should just wait it out, re-order the car, or consider a completely different vehicle at this point. Has anyone else experienced something similar? What would you recommend?

If you’re getting a Chevy, I’d say you should consider buying a Silverado instead. In my experience, the Silverado is a solid vehicle, and I’ve had fewer delays or issues when ordering one. Have you looked into whether the quality control issue is specific to the Traverse or Chevy in general? It could be that other models are not facing the same delays.

@Blane
Thanks for the suggestion. I hadn’t thought about the Silverado, but I’m more in need of an SUV like the Traverse because of the space it offers. That being said, I wonder if different models, like the Silverado, are having fewer delays in quality control. It would be interesting to know if this issue is across the board for all Chevy models or just the Traverse.

@Winter
Yeah, I get what you’re saying. The space in the Traverse definitely makes sense if you need an SUV. From what I’ve read online and heard from a couple of friends who have recently bought Chevys, quality control holds seem to be happening more often with certain SUV models, particularly the Traverse and Equinox. It’s possible Chevy is being more cautious with their SUVs for some reason. You could ask your dealer if there’s any difference in timelines for other SUV models or even other brands entirely. They might have more info on how widespread these delays are.

@Blane
That’s helpful to know. I’ll definitely bring that up next time I speak with the dealer. It’s been a bit frustrating because I wasn’t expecting this kind of delay, especially after custom-building the car. Maybe I’ll ask them about alternatives or even other brands, but I’m still leaning toward sticking with Chevy for now. Just not sure if waiting is worth it or if switching models could speed things up.

I’ve gone through a similar situation with my own car order, and I ended up waiting it out. If you’re already deep into the process and the car is built, re-ordering might just mean starting from scratch, which could take even longer. I’d suggest calling your dealer again to see if they can give you any clearer update on why the car is held in quality control. In my case, it turned out to be a minor software issue that was resolved within a couple of weeks.

@Addison
Thanks for sharing your experience. That’s what I’m worried about—having to re-order and start the whole process over again. I’ve already waited this long, so part of me feels like I should just stick with it and see how long the quality control delay lasts. Did your dealer tell you upfront what the issue was or did you have to keep asking them for updates? I haven’t been given much information yet.

@Winter
In my case, I had to keep calling and asking for updates. They weren’t very proactive about keeping me in the loop, but once I got through to someone who had more information, they were able to tell me what was causing the delay. It wasn’t a major issue, just something they wanted to double-check before releasing the vehicle. I think it’s worth pressing them for more details about what’s going on with your Traverse specifically. Sometimes, they might be able to expedite things if you let them know you’re really eager to get the car.

@Addison
That’s good advice. I’ll definitely try being more persistent when I reach out next time. It’s hard not knowing exactly what’s going on with the vehicle, but maybe getting more information will help me feel better about the situation. I appreciate the insight!

I’ve heard about this happening with Chevy lately. It seems like they’re being extra careful with some of their newer models, especially when it comes to quality control. If I were you, I’d wait it out unless you’re in a rush to get the vehicle. If you go with another brand or re-order, there’s no guarantee you won’t run into delays elsewhere too. Have you asked the dealership if they have any loaner vehicles while you wait?

@Luca
Good point, I hadn’t thought about the possibility of delays with other brands too. I’m not in a huge rush, but the uncertainty is definitely frustrating. I haven’t asked about a loaner vehicle yet, but that could be a good idea, especially if the delay drags on. I might bring that up when I talk to the dealership again. Thanks for the suggestion!
