So my Tahoe’s been leaking coolant for about a week now. I never see it on the ground but I think I finally figured out where it’s coming from. Seems to be leaking around or near the alternator, but I can’t pinpoint the exact spot. Has anyone else run into this? Any help would be appreciated.
Sounds like your water pump’s about to give out. Time to get a new one.

Would a water pump really leak coolant onto the alternator though?

That’s not usually where the water pump would spray. It might be your power steering pump shaft seal leaking under pressure and spraying up there.

I replaced my water pump, then a week later my radiator failed… almost like it missed the old water pump or something!
Can you see the leak when the engine’s running? It’s odd for coolant to get up to the alternator bracket.

Yeah, I thought the same. Didn’t think a bad water pump would spray coolant that high. I haven’t checked while the engine’s running, I’ll definitely do that in the morning.
@Lennox
It could be a small leak in one of the radiator hoses or the end tank, which might spray in that area. Are you sure it’s coolant? It looks a bit dark and oily—could be something from the power steering pump.
@Erie
I think there’s a coolant hose that runs behind the alternator.
