I have a Chevy Bolt and sadly got a cracked windshield on the highway. I have General Motors insurance and I’m paying $282 per month with full comp and collision, but my deductible is $1000. I talked to my insurance and they said I can shop around, and if something can be fixed under $1000 or if I need a replacement, I can do that. I live in the Houston-Clearlake area. Edit: I found an aftermarket replacement for $450 with the recalibration.
Yeah, your best bet is to call some glass places that do windshields and get estimates. Most likely it’ll be well under $1000, so going through insurance might not help. I remember needing a windshield a few years back, and it was around $300.
@Brice
That sounds reasonable. I’ll definitely give some places a call. Thanks for the advice!

Glass is probably $1500 plus labor. Just a heads up.
Are you guessing on that price or have you called places?
Go to the dealer and ask if they have local recon subcontractors. They install windshields and other stuff for less. I got a new windshield installed for $100 that way.

That’s a solid tip. I didn’t know they could do that. I’ll check with the dealer.
Wow, that insurance you have sounds pricey. My insurance offers a free windshield replacement once a year without a deductible. I guess they realize it’s a common issue around here.

Yeah, it does seem high. I guess it varies a lot based on the provider and location.
