Do I need to align hone after align boring my engine block?

So I’m switching my engine block main caps and will be align boring the block. But do I MUST align hone after, or is it not needed? I’ve seen some main caps manufacturers say their caps are pre-bored, so only honing is needed. I’ve also noticed many race car builds only align bore when new caps are used and seem good to go. I’m curious, especially after reading on engine magazine.com that both methods end up with similar results, but the difference is just in the hardware. Thank you!

I think it depends on how precise you want everything to be. Align honing can give you a tighter fit, which is crucial for high-performance builds.

That makes sense. I’ve heard align honing is more about getting that perfect alignment.

Honestly, if you’re racing, I’d recommend the align hone. Better safe than sorry, right?

I’ve done a few builds where I just align bored, and they turned out fine. But I guess it depends on your goals.

Good point. If you’re looking for max performance, it’s probably worth it to do both.

I’m not an expert, but if the caps are pre-bored, you might be okay with just the align bore. Just make sure everything fits snug.
