My grandmother just gave me her old 2011 Chevy Cruze. She never bothered with any phone settings since she barely uses a cellphone. I noticed a phone button on the bottom right and got my hopes up, but there are no phone or Bluetooth settings, and pressing the button doesn’t do anything. Does anyone know why the button is there or if I’m missing something?
I had a vehicle with a button like that, and I discovered it was basically just a mute button. I guess the idea is to mute the radio so you can answer the phone, but it doesn’t make much sense since it’s easier to just turn the radio off. Maybe it’s a placeholder for radios equipped with Bluetooth.
Is there a USB port somewhere, like in the glove box or a compartment in the dash? I’m thinking those settings might only show up when a phone is connected. 2011 was around the time regular cars started coming with Bluetooth, but some models only had USB or phone connectivity options.
There’s an aux jack, huh? I guess they didn’t anticipate that aux jacks would eventually be phased out of phones.
The programmer’s interest must have faded.
Back then, you had to use the vehicle’s voice commands to pair your phone since the infotainment system didn’t have that option.
To do it, use the voice commands from the steering wheel and say “Bluetooth,” then follow up with “pair phone.” If the car has Bluetooth, it should guide you through the pairing process.
