I’m in the middle of replacing the fuel filter on my 1989 Scottsdale 1500. It’s been causing issues, and since it’s a cheap part and should be a quick fix, I decided to do it myself.
I got one side of the filter disconnected, but the left side won’t come off at all. I’ve tried WD-40, PB Blaster, and even hot water, but nothing seems to work. I’ve now stripped the fitting with how hard I’ve been trying to twist it. I’m trying not to damage it any further, but I’m feeling a bit desperate.
I’ve tried almost everything except breaking it off. Any advice or suggestions would be really appreciated. It was supposed to be an easy fix, but it’s turning into a bigger hassle.
You’ll probably have to cut it and then repair the line, unfortunately. Make sure to use a flare nut wrench next time so it doesn’t round off like that.
Try using vice grips on the flare nut instead of a regular wrench. Then grab a socket that fits on the other side of the fuel filter and use a ratchet to spin it off.
Knipex cobra pliers have enough grip to take off a tough line nut, but it might look pretty rough after. Next time, be sure to use proper line nut wrenches.
