Is GM/Chevy Releasing Hybrids in 2025?

Hello, I’m reaching out to see if anyone has some insider info on whether GM or Chevy is planning to release hybrid models anytime soon, particularly in 2025. My family is originally from Michigan, and a good portion of them have worked for GM or Ford—most are retired now. We’ve always been a GM family, and I’d love to keep it that way.

Right now, I’m living in LA, and I’m looking to buy a new crossover, like the Chevy Equinox or Blazer. But with gas prices the way they are and all the stop-and-go traffic here, I really need a hybrid with good city MPG to save on fuel. I’m not quite ready to make the jump to a full EV just yet. I’d prefer a regular hybrid, not a plug-in, but I’d consider a plug-in hybrid if it has a decent electric range.

It’s frustrating because it feels like GM is lagging behind when it comes to hybrids. Other companies have had hybrids out for years, and GM seems to be focusing more on full EVs. I know they’re pushing EVs hard, but I’m really hoping they’re working on some hybrids, too, especially for their crossovers.

Does anyone still working in the industry or with some inside knowledge know if GM is planning to release any hybrid versions of the Equinox or Blazer soon? I’m not in a huge rush—I can wait a year or maybe two if I need to—but if it’s going to be longer than that, I might have to look at something like the Honda CR-V Hybrid, even though I’d obviously prefer to stick with GM.

Any info would be greatly appreciated

GM is shifting its focus toward electric vehicles (EVs), but there are some updates on hybrids too. They plan to bring back plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) to North America, starting with the Chevy Equinox, which will have a PHEV option launching in China soon. This model will likely combine a turbocharged 1.5L gasoline engine with electric components. However, it might not be available in North America until around 2027.

Right now, GM isn’t announcing regular hybrids for models like the Equinox or Blazer, focusing more on EVs and PHEVs. If you need a hybrid sooner, you might want to check out other brands like the Honda CR-V Hybrid. Otherwise, keep an eye on GM’s future announcements as they expand their hybrid and EV lineup.

General Motors will release a new plug-in hybrid car in 2027. This was announced by GM’s CEO, Mary Barra. It will be the first plug-in hybrid from the company since the Chevy Volt.

GM is getting rid of old powertrains one by one. Twenty years ago, it made sense to build hybrids, but now it’s not so important to make new gas technology like that.
