Is it worth it?

I found this truck for sale nearby and would like some opinions or suggestions on whether it’s worth checking out or possibly buying.

Earlier this year, I spent $7,500 on a clean Burb 2500 with 147,000 miles. I then invested nearly $3,000 to replace the suspension, steering, AC, and upgrade the head unit and speakers. So, I’m about $10,500 into my truck. Given that, and considering the work done and current mileage, the price seems a bit high but reasonable if the work was performed with high quality.

However, if the engine was recently rebuilt, why is there a rear main seal leak? Shouldn’t that have been addressed during the engine rebuild? If this detail was missed, what else might have been overlooked? Why rebuild the truck only to sell it soon after? Could there be a bigger issue that isn’t being disclosed? It’s hard to tell from my position, but it seems worth investigating.

It seems like a lot of work has gone into it. What I’m uncertain about is which other systems might need to be replaced due to the increase in horsepower. Also, 187,000 miles on a gas truck seems quite high.

There’s a significant amount of money invested in it. A motor rebuild would be expensive, so it depends on how much you really want it.

It was worth it. If you prefer it to be somewhat newish…

$12,000 feels too high to me, but I’m not very familiar with the prices for these. I’d probably be willing to pay around $8,000.
