Just bought a 1992 Lumina Euro

Found this thing for 7k with only a hundred thousand kilometers on it. I’ve had it for over a month, it has a safety, and runs great. I’m yet to run into any issues. I was curious if there’s anything I should look out for in a car this old or specifically for this model. I’m not the most experienced car guy.

I had a 4-door version of that in high school! Generally, they’re fairly robust, but it’s 32 years old. All bets are off. Anything that old, you need to make sure all deferred maintenance is caught up on. Age is not kind to fluids, rubber, and plastics.

Good point! What specific things should I check for?

Inspect the belt, coolant hoses, and heater hoses. Check the transmission, power steering, and brake fluids. Look at the coolant, plugs, fuel filter, and air filter too.

Also, investigate any check engine lights. Since it’s a '92, it’s pre-OBDII, so it won’t tell you as much, but it’s still a clue.

Yeah, hand calculate the MPG you’re averaging. If it seems way off, you might need to look into it. Also, check the tire wear and alignment.

Sounds like a solid find! Just keep up with maintenance, and you should be fine. Enjoy the ride!

Nice! I love those old cars. Just be ready for some quirks, haha.
