Just got a V6 Camaro... how do I go about getting a V8?

I’m gonna be honest, I know almost nothing about cars and I have no idea how to swap out the engine. I was considering using an engine from a GM truck from the same time, but I need advice on what I should get and where to find it. I know I probably shouldn’t have a fast car as my first one, but this will be a project for me. I have a work truck for my daily driving.

If this is your first car and you know almost nothing about cars, then don’t. Get good at driving it as-is first. Learn the car and get some experience before looking into upgrades.

Honestly, it’s just not worth it unless you have a ton of money to burn.

Time and money, but mostly money. You’ll end up spending more than the car is worth.

Don’t do it unless you have another reliable vehicle. It takes a lot of time and money. Consider joining an auto shop or finding a local group to learn from. Start with small repairs on your Camaro first.

That makes sense. I’ll focus on getting used to driving and maybe do some small upgrades first.

You’ll need new engine mounts, an ECU, and a bunch of other parts. If you just want a V8 Camaro, it’s easier to sell this one and buy a V8 model.

Honestly, the easiest way is to sell the car and buy one with a V8 already in it.

Why not throw a turbo on the V6 and skip the V8? You’ll get more power that way.

If you have some automotive knowledge, it can be done. You’ll need a V8 K-member and engine harness to start, but it’s still a big job.

It’s definitely not as easy as YouTube makes it look.
