Hey everyone, I recently got a red Chevrolet Corvair from the 1960s, and I’m beyond excited. It’s my first classic car, and I’d love to hear any tips or thoughts on maintenance, especially from other Corvair owners. Anything I should watch out for or know about these cars?
Congrats on the Corvair! Those rear-engine beauties are unique. Keep an eye on the oil levels; they’re known to go through oil quickly. And watch out for overheating – make sure your fan belt is in good shape!
@Skyler
Thanks, I hadn’t thought about the fan belt. Will definitely keep an eye on it.
@Harlyn
Appreciate it! I did notice the handling felt different. Guess that’s part of the charm?
Great choice! As a fellow Corvair owner, I’d recommend joining a local Corvair club if you have one nearby. There’s a lot of knowledge to share, and people are always happy to help troubleshoot.

Hadn’t thought about that – good idea. I’ll look up clubs in my area.
I’d keep a toolkit with some spare belts and a jack. Sometimes, the fan belt can slip off, and it’s good to be prepared. Other than that, enjoy it! Corvairs are gems.

Sounds smart. I’ll make sure to have those on hand just in case. Thanks!
