So I’ve been shopping for cars for a couple of weeks and I’m surprised at how Chevy has been the price leader in the crossover/small SUV market. We checked out the Trax, Trailblazer, and Equinox, and she ultimately liked the Equinox best. Value-wise, it looks great since the sticker price plus fees at a couple dealerships comes in below MSRP for a Corolla Cross base model, which she really likes since she’s partial to Toyota. But I have some skepticism about the non-truck side of the GM lineup. I’m curious if anyone here owns the 2025 Chevy Equinox and can share their thoughts. Is it a worthwhile purchase? Do you trust the 1.5L Turbo I4 + CVT combo for long-term ownership? Any annoyances I should be aware of? Thanks for your input!
Honestly, I think you should hold off on big purchases like cars until you’re married. Just a thought.

I get that, but I’m just helping her make a decision, not paying for it outright.

Got it, that makes more sense.
I’ve inspected a lot of Equinox models with that engine and transmission. Common issues are oil-starved turbos and timing cover seal leaks. Most problems come from poor maintenance, not the CVT itself. It’s pretty reliable overall if you keep up on oil changes.
@Kiran
I’m pretty strict on oil changes, so I think I’ll be okay. Glad to hear the CVT isn’t a huge issue.
If you go for the AWD version, you get a normal automatic transmission instead of the CVT.

I’ve heard mixed reviews about the AWD models. Seems like there are more issues reported.
Just so you know, the Equinox didn’t have a CVT until this new generation.

That’s true! Just something to keep in mind.
We’ve had two Equinoxes, a 2021 and now a 2022. They’re solid cars for everyday use. My brother has an older model that’s still running strong.

But I’m not a fan of the CVT. The engine feels underpowered in my 2023 AWD model.
My mom has a 2023. We’re thinking of doing oil changes when the sensor hits around 45-50 percent. I’ve heard about the turbo issues too, so I’m cautious.

I still think the engine and CVT combo is a risk. It’s a small turbo, not great for reliability.
Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with the Equinox or GM vehicles. People often lean towards Japanese brands due to bad luck with older GM models. The 2025 Equinox is redesigned and offers good value for the money.
@Eli
But it’s not compatible with Google or Apple CarPlay.
