Hey guys, I’m new here, so if there’s a better spot for this question, let me know.
I’ve got an '03 Silverado 2500HD with a 6.0L engine, and my brother has the same. We have a yearly race at Christmas, and we’re only allowed two performance mods per year. Paint, lifts, and exhaust don’t count.
Last year, he beat me off the line. Right now, I’ve got a K&N cold air intake, performance coils, and plugs with a 2" lift. His setup is a vortex cold air intake, throttle body spacer, and 2" lift.
Any suggestions for getting better off-the-line response and overall acceleration? I’ve thought about cams but don’t know enough about them yet. Appreciate any advice!
There’s an old saying: add lightness. Removing stuff is free, plus it helps fuel economy and power-to-weight ratio. If you aren’t looking for loopholes, you’re not really racing!
Maybe consider running with a tonneau cover or drop the tailgate for aerodynamics. Heck, you could even remove it for race day.
Do you really need the A/C and heater? Getting rid of those could save weight too, and you could argue they broke and aren’t worth fixing. You’re only racing solo, so you could swap out the passenger seat for a lighter one too.

Haha, good ideas! I might not go all out since it’s a daily driver, but I can definitely take the tailgate off for the race. Thanks for the tips!
