Looking for Trailer/Hatchback Storage suggestions for a 2013 Chevy Spark

Hi guys

I have been driving my Chevy Spark for almost three years now. I originally got it in a hurry after a guy in California totaled my beloved Subaru, which had the perfect amount of space for all my LARP event gear. Back then, it was just me and my roommate, so the Spark worked perfectly. But lately, we’ve been carpooling a third person to our events, and now we’re looking for more space.

I tried using a roof rack, but I ended up tearing my rotator cuff and can’t lift anything while I wait for physical therapy. So, I’ve been wondering if anyone has experience with trailers or small storage units that attach to the back of the car.

I’m working with a $500 budget, but I’m open to thrifting or even taking out a small loan if there’s something highly recommended. I live in Oregon, so it has to hold up to the rain. Mostly, I’m just looking for an extra 2-5 cubic feet of space—just enough to stash our foam LARP weapons so our poor carpool mate doesn’t keep getting hit in the face every time we make a turn.

Thanks so much for any advice.

Not sure if this will post correctly, but here’s my setup: a Chevrolet-installed Class 1 hitch, a cargo carrier from Walmart, and a box from Home Depot.

ETA: The hitch cost around $150 (I used Chevy points), the cargo carrier was about $60, and the box was around $40 (I think it’s the 57-gallon size). It holds quite a bit! And even with this setup, the license plate is still visible (yay, speeding tickets from cameras, lol)

We have found just what we’re looking for. We use totes just like yours to house all of our LARP equipment! I greatly appreciate the recommendation (as well as the location).

Any chance you saw a decline in fuel mileage? Also, what does the rear bumper look like now?

@Olivia No change. The bumper isn’t changed at all. It’s all underneath.

Got a gazebo at Aldi $40 on clearance and it almost fits underneath perfectly. In bad weather, I throw a tarp on the end for a bit of DIY weather protection, works like a charm.

Thats actually pretty cool. Do you happen to know what the part number was for your hitch? Also, I like the color of the car!
