New suburban reliability

Hello everyone, I am planning to purchase an SUV. I had planned to acquire an Escalade, but owing to reliability difficulties, I’m canceling the plan. I want a car that is both luxurious and reliable and the Land Cruiser is the most reliable luxury SUV, but the interiors aren’t as excellent as Lexus and Suburban. So my question is to Suburban owners: how reliable is the vehicle? Does it require regular servicing and cause you problems? Is it satisfying to own the car from a dependability standpoint? And would you say the automobile has been worth your money in terms of reliability and overall?

GM has had a bad run in recent years. I have a 2006 Tahoe that I will drive to the grave. If you require a third row seat, the Highlander is a good option.

The Escalade is little more than a tarted up Suburban. Underneath, they are the same car. All of the reliability issues you’ve read about with the Cadillac also affect the Chevy. If that’s your budget, but you want mechanical reliability, choose a higher-end Land Cruiser, Lexus GX, or Lexus LX.

Toyota separated the Land Cruiser brand into the Land Cruiser and Land Cruiser Prado decades ago, with the latter being a smaller and less expensive variant, similar to Chevy’s Suburban and Tahoe.

The branding has been different in North America; Toyota began slapping Lexus logos on the Land Cruiser 20 years ago, naming it the Lexus LX. Meanwhile, Toyota dealers sold essentially the same vehicle, known as a Land Cruiser. Toyota discontinued the Land Cruiser once it was revamped in 2021, leaving North America with only the Lexus LX.

Toyota originally introduced the Land Cruiser Prado in the United States in 2024. The Toyota Land Cruiser and the new Lexus GX are federalized variants of the Land Cruiser Prado, which was previously offered internationally. The new Land Cruiser has been de-contented to some extent (e.g., no V6 and no third-row seat) to lower its basic price and avoid cannibalizing Lexus GX sales.
