Just bought a brand-new Suburban Z71 with only 6 miles on it. When we brought it home, I noticed the hood isn’t sitting flush with the driver’s side headlight. It’s coming away slightly on that side, but the other side looks fine and flush. The dealership said it just needs to be balanced, and they could fix it, though it might need to stay overnight. I’d rather not leave it there if I can fix this myself. Any advice on whether this is something I can handle on my own?
There are small rubber bump stops that the hood rests against. You can adjust these yourself by unthreading or tightening them to play around with the fitment. That should help get the hood aligned better.
Thanks, I found the bump stops. It seems like the dealership noticed the issue too. The side that’s flush has the bumpers up, but the side that’s misaligned has them all the way down. Problem is, the hood just won’t lower enough to meet them.
Hood adjustments can be a bit tricky. There are videos online that show how to adjust the hood. One tip: before you unbolt anything, use a marker to make some reference marks on the hood and the base of the latch. That way, you’ll know where everything was lined up originally, and it’ll save you some frustration if things get misaligned further.
