NYC Dept of Sanitation is Rolling Out the Silverado EV

Spotted the NYC Dept of Sanitation rolling out the new Chevy Silverado EV today in Union Square. Looks pretty cool, but I’m curious about the cost—are taxpayers covering the $100k price tag for these? Thoughts?

I think I’d like the pickup version if I could afford it. These new electric trucks seem cool, but they’re definitely out of my budget for now.

Yeah, the price is definitely a barrier for a lot of people. I’m hoping prices come down eventually, but it might be a while.

I like the way these look, tbh. They’ve got a nice design for an electric truck.

Agreed, they’ve done a good job making them look sleek while still keeping that tough truck vibe.

So are taxpayers footing the $100k for that thing? Feels like a lot for a garbage truck, even if it’s electric.

Good question. I’m not sure what the budgeting looks like for this, but with all the push for going green, they’re probably justifying the cost with long-term savings on fuel and maintenance.

@Julia
Yeah, makes sense if they’re thinking long-term. Still, that’s a hefty upfront cost.
