I drove my truck for about 5 minutes with no oil pressure. Am I in big trouble? Do I need to take apart the engine, or will it be okay
Why on earth did you have to drive the truck? The oil pressure light is red for a reason. You should have stopped immediately.
It’s unlikely that it’s okay, but it’s hard to determine the extent of the damage. Address the oil pressure issue and change the oil. If it runs well for 1,000 miles, change the oil again and send a sample to Blackstone to analyze its condition.
You might have damaged the engine significantly, but at least you made it home?
Are you certain that the issue isn’t with the sensor itself?
It all depends on the extent of the damage. I’d definitely try to fix the leak and add oil. Chevy engines are pretty durable, but there’s a high chance some damage has occurred. To determine if it can be rebuilt, you’d need to disassemble it and have it inspected by a machine shop. If the engine overheated, it could have caused cracks in the block or head. Oil is crucial not only for lubrication but also for cooling, so maintaining the proper oil level is essential.
