Hello, I have a 2020 Equinox and one of my cylinders went bad at 52,000 miles. Is this supposed to be covered under the powertrain warranty? I was quoted $1000 from the dealership.
The powertrain warranty is typically 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. The warranty starts on the date the vehicle was originally sold and the customer takes delivery. It also depends on what exactly is wrong. Not everything is covered under the powertrain warranty.
@Quirin
That’s good to know. I was hoping that a cylinder issue would be covered under that warranty.
It’s now late February in 2025. The car would have to have been sold new fairly late in the 2020 model year to still be under warranty.

I got the car in early 2021, so I guess I’m just outside the warranty period.
You might want to check your warranty documentation. Sometimes specific components have longer coverage. It could be worth a look.

I’ll definitely check that. I didn’t realize some parts could have different coverage.
If you feel this should be covered, consider contacting Chevrolet customer service. They might be able to provide clarity or assistance regarding your situation.

That’s a good idea. I’ll reach out to them to see what they say.
Keep in mind that if the dealership is quoting you $1000, they might not be including all the necessary details. Get a full breakdown of what that charge covers.

I’ll ask for a detailed quote. I want to know exactly what I’m paying for.
Another thing to consider is if you’ve kept up with regular maintenance. Some warranties have clauses that require that to remain valid.

I’ve kept up with maintenance, but I’ll double-check my records just in case.
I had a similar issue with my Equinox. It turned out to be a minor fix, but I was worried about warranty coverage too. Just make sure to stay persistent.

Thanks for the encouragement. I’ll stay on top of it.
