I have a 94 Caprice classic and it’s still got the original Delco loc ll radio. I want to put in some aftermarket speakers because mine are blown. I’m not sure how to do this without exceeding the ohm rating and possibly blowing the original stereo. If anyone has any information on this head unit or advice on what speakers to use, I would really appreciate it.
You should definitely check the ohm rating of the original speakers first. Most factory radios like that one run around 4 ohms. If you stick with that, you should be fine.
Yeah, I’d recommend looking for aftermarket speakers that are rated for 4 ohms. That way, you won’t have to worry about blowing the stereo. Also, make sure to check the power handling to match it with what your stereo can output.
@Kendall
Thanks for the tip. Do you have any specific brands in mind that work well with older stereos?

I’ve heard good things about Pioneer and Kenwood for aftermarket speakers. They usually sound great and are pretty reliable.

Just a heads up, if you change the speakers, you might also want to consider upgrading the wiring to handle the new audio setup better. It can really improve sound quality.
Good point. I hadn’t thought about the wiring. What gauge do you recommend for a setup like this?
If you’re unsure about wiring or installation, maybe check out some YouTube tutorials. They can really help visualize the process.

I’ll definitely do that. Thanks for the suggestion. I feel a bit more confident about this now.
