I have a 2005 Chevy Cobalt LS and someone rear-ended me while I was working. They didn’t leave a note, and there was no footage of the incident. My trunk is caved in, and the locks are trying to work because I can hear it when it attempts to open or close, but it won’t let me lift it open. I’ve tried using the key to open it, but I’m worried about breaking it. I also looked up how to access my trunk through the folding seats, but I NEED TO OPEN MY TRUNK TO DO THAT. Does anyone know any additional ways to fold my back seats or unjam my trunk? I don’t even care about the dents right now; I just want access to my trunk.
Have you checked if there’s a way to manually release the trunk from inside the car? Sometimes there’s a latch or lever.
I had a similar issue once. If the lock is trying to engage, maybe a gentle tap on the trunk while someone else tries to unlock it could help.
You could also try looking up any YouTube videos specific to your model. There might be some tips from others who have had the same problem.

That’s a good idea. I’ll look into some videos. I just need to get it opened somehow.
If the manual release works, maybe you can try pushing from the inside while someone else pulls from the outside. It might give it enough of a nudge to open.
I feel your pain. It’s frustrating when you can’t access the trunk. Have you thought about calling a locksmith? They might have tools to help without causing damage.
Just a heads up, if you’re using the key, be careful not to force it. You might end up breaking it or damaging the lock further.
I’m just worried about getting my stuff out. I’ll definitely try some of these suggestions. Thanks, everyone!
