Remove or replace outside mirror shroud?

I have a 99 2dr Blazer that has power/heated mirrors. The passenger side shroud on the mirror shattered after hitting it on a tree branch going down some trails. I’m looking to replace it with the shroud off a Sonoma parts truck that doesn’t have the electric stuff. I can’t find anything online about how to remove the shroud itself, just replacing the mirrors. Any idea how I’d do that? The mirrors won’t come off the arm no matter how hard I try to pull them out like the newer ones do.

Hey, I had a similar issue with my Blazer. I remember having to take off the entire mirror assembly to get to the shroud. It can be a bit tricky, but it’s doable.

@Fitz
Yeah, it might seem like a hassle, but it’s worth it to get everything fixed properly. Just make sure to have the right tools ready.

Have you tried looking for a video tutorial? Sometimes seeing it done can really help. That’s how I figured out my own mirror issue.

I didn’t think of that. I’ll check YouTube and see if there’s anything for my model.

I think the shroud is usually held on by clips or screws. If you can find the right spot to pry it off, you might not need to take the whole mirror off.

That would be great if I can just pop it off. Do you know where I might find those clips or screws?

@Eden
They should be near the base of the mirror. Just take a good look around there. Sometimes you can even use a small screwdriver to help pry it off gently.

Just be careful not to break anything else while trying to remove it. I broke a few clips trying to rush through it.

Thanks for the warning. I’ll take my time and be cautious.

If all else fails, maybe just hit up a local mechanic. They might have seen this issue before and can help you out.

That’s a good idea. I’d rather get it done right than mess it up myself.
