Should I pull the transmission too when pulling the engine?

I’m pulling the engine out of my truck because I was told that it has a crack. My transmission was rebuilt less than 400 miles ago and seems fine, but I’m wondering if it could have been damaged when the engine blew. Should I pull the transmission as well while I’m at it? Or would it be safe to leave it in? Any advice would be appreciated!

If your transmission was rebuilt and is still working fine, you likely don’t need to pull it unless you suspect damage or want to make things easier for future work. Since it’s recently rebuilt, it should be okay, but it depends on how bad the engine failure was and if anything could have affected the transmission.

Unless you think something might have physically damaged the transmission, it should be fine. Just be careful when pulling the engine so you don’t accidentally mess up any connections or mounts. If you’re planning to reinstall everything yourself, pulling the transmission could make aligning everything easier later.

I’d leave the transmission in if it’s been rebuilt and there are no signs of damage. Pulling the engine without the transmission is a little more tricky, but it should save you time and money unless you really suspect something happened to the trans when the engine failed.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll inspect everything closely when pulling the engine and make sure there’s no damage to the transmission before deciding.

The transmission should be okay as long as there wasn’t any extreme force that could have caused physical damage when the engine blew. If it was just an internal engine issue, it’s unlikely to affect the transmission. If you’re concerned, though, you could check the fluid for any signs of damage or overheating.

I agree with others here, the transmission should be fine if it was working well after the rebuild. But if you’re unsure, it doesn’t hurt to at least inspect it closely before re-installing the new engine.
