Smallest Chevy Capable of 3 Carseats in a Row?

My current vehicle’s on life support, so I’m looking at new Chevys. My wife has the minivan as our primary family vehicle, but I need something practical for daily suburban commuting (ideally under $35k with decent MPG). It also needs to be able to fit a driver, an adult passenger, and three kids in carseats, even if just occasionally.

I was surprised to see the Trailblazer listed on Consumer Reports’ recommended list for 3 across. I’ve also seen some claims about fitting 3 in a Trax. I honestly thought I’d be looking at an Equinox or even a Blazer.

Any advice for a bewildered dad?

Knowing car seats, it’s gonna vary a lot. No way 3 of our seats would fit in our Equinox.

Very true. I’m fighting the urge to tell my wife that our current seats will only fit in a Blazer, instead of doing the more reasonable thing and spending $600ish on slim seats and saving $10k on a smaller car.

The Blazer really isn’t that much ‘larger’ than an Equinox. It might take up more space in your driveway, but there’s not a huge difference in interior room.

Oh dang, thanks for the tip!

It’s a weird vehicle. Looks cool, but it’s got some quirks.

Yeah, our car seats are like NASCAR seats. They’re massive!

Had a similar situation and ended up buying a 9-passenger Suburban. It’s not new, but it has all the room we need and then some.

It’s really going to depend on the size of each car seat. Some are bulkier than others.

If they’re not booster seats, you’re going to have a really tough time fitting them in the Trailblazer.

Unfortunately, only one is a booster lol. We’ll bring our seats to the dealer and do a fit test, but I’m getting the sense that the Equinox is the smallest we should even consider, even with slim car seats.

You’re going to need to test the seats in each vehicle to see if they fit. I have an Equinox, and I don’t see how 3 car seats would fit. You might be looking at a Traverse if it gets too tight, but that could be out of your budget. Good luck!

Make sure to measure the width of each car seat. That’s really the key.
