So I have a 2013 Chevy Sonic Hatchback with about 88k miles, so for awhile it’s been making a screeching sound that i assumed was my serpentine belt. I replaced that, and the issue persisted, so I went to have it looked at and was told it was the alternator, specifically the internal bearing. I just replaced that today and what do you know it’s still making some noise, have any of you had a similar issue or would know what it is?? It’s happens only when I’m idle or when I slow down but only for a second. I’ve had the computer scanned and it’s telling me it’s the fresh air intake hose (which I also replaced).
This might sound trivial, but ensure your spark plugs are tight. I experienced this issue with a Sonic, and it drove me crazy. A good way to check anything driven by the pulley is to remove the belt and see if the noise goes away. Good luck!
Wow! I had no idea it would make a sound. I’ll definitely add this to my checklist in case it happens to my Sonic as well. Haha!
I experienced this too; there was a faint screech whenever I idled, and it turned out to be the purge control valve failing.
1.4?
High-pitched screech?
It might be the front crank seal.
It’s a simple task if you have a cordless impact wrench.
If the PCV is failing, it can cause the seal to screech due to excessive vacuum in the crankcase. So, if it’s a 1.4, I’d recommend checking the usual PCV failure points, such as the check valve in the intake and the valve cover.
