Super Cruise and OnStar subscription question

I recently bought a 2024 Traverse RS and have some questions about Super Cruise and the OnStar subscription. Most info I found online is a bit outdated or not specific to the Traverse, so I’m hoping for some clarity here.

First, I want to confirm: Super Cruise should work without needing an active internet connection, right? From what I understand, the feature operates locally and doesn’t rely on remote servers. As long as I have a valid Super Cruise subscription, I should be able to use it without an internet connection. The internet is just for software and map updates, so I don’t need it constantly connected while driving. Does that sound right?

And if that’s correct, then any internet connection (like my home Wi-Fi, hotspot, or OnStar) should be fine for updates, and it doesn’t need to be connected 24/7, right? Just every now and then for updates. Does that make sense?

But here’s where I’m confused—OnStar says a valid connection is needed for Super Cruise. Is OnStar just an option for connectivity, or do I need it for the system to function? Where did I go wrong with my understanding?

Appreciate any help!

You only need the Super Cruise Plan. It wouldn’t make sense for OnStar to require a separate data plan just to make Super Cruise work after you’ve already paid for the feature. You get 3 years included anyway. If you’re still unsure, OnStar has a chat feature on their site.

That’s exactly what I was thinking! My free month of OnStar just ended last weekend, and now Super Cruise stopped working today. It’s like OnStar is pushing me to buy their plan by cutting off features I’ve already paid for. :thinking:

@Layne
Did it stop working on a road you’ve used it on before, or has it not worked at all since the weekend?

@Layne
It was a highway I’ve used before with no issues. I didn’t drive over the weekend, and today was the first time I’ve driven since the OnStar trial expired.
