The volume up button is activated by pressing both the up and down buttons at the same time. Pressing the volume down button will skip to the next track. The next track button works as expected, and the previous track button is functioning properly.

I have the same buttons. Except for the volume-up button, none of my buttons worked.
I got a used set of buttons from eBay, and when they arrived, I chose to press HARD on a lower button, which corrected it.
However, my buttons were all faded and worn out, so I replaced them with the ones from eBay, which also functioned.

That button can be turned. More movement in the waistband is intended to (theoretically) lessen the likelihood of it pulling out. You can’t shatter it by hammering it. You might have a stationary button installed by a dry cleaner, but first it needs to be repaired because of the hole left by the original button setting.
