Thinking about a 2007 Monte Carlo SS for my first car?

I’m currently looking for my first car and saw a 2007 Monte Carlo SS close to where I live. It has the LS4 engine and looks pretty good for $5k. Should I buy it or skip this one?

I have a 2008 Impala SS, which is similar. It really depends on the mileage and whether the transmission has been serviced. The LS4 is fun, but the transmissions can be pretty fragile. Also, watch out for the AFM/DOD system; it can be problematic and may start burning oil as it ages.

@Parker
Thanks for the heads up! I’ll definitely check the mileage and ask about the transmission history.

The Monte Carlo SS has a nice look and can be fun to drive if it’s well maintained. Just make sure to inspect it thoroughly.

I plan to take it for a test drive and check everything out. Appreciate the advice!

If you find a good deal and the car is in decent shape, it could be a fun starter car. Just keep an eye on maintenance costs.

Is there anything specific you’re worried about with this model? Maybe I can help!

Just hoping it doesn’t have any hidden issues. I really want a reliable first car.
