Towing capacity for a 2015 Suburban... anyone know?

Hey folks, I recently got a 2015 Suburban LTZ and I’m thinking of towing a food trailer that weighs around 7000 pounds. I usually use a truck for towing, but just curious about the Suburban’s capacity. Can anyone help me out with this? Any extra towing tips for a Suburban would also be appreciated. Thanks!

Check out the 2015 Chevrolet Trailering Guide, pg 12. Depending on your setup (2WD vs 4WD, Max Trailering Pkg), the towing capacity is between 6000 and 8300 lbs. Just make sure not to exceed these limits!

What’s the GCWR? I’m not familiar with that term.

It stands for Gross Combined Weight Rating. It’s the total weight of your vehicle and whatever you’re towing. Important to keep below that too!

Definitely weigh the trailer at a CAT scale to know exactly what you’re working with.

Good idea! I’ll try to do that before I tow.

Just a heads up, a weight-distributing hitch might be needed for heavier loads. You’ll also want to check the tongue weight.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll look into that.

Towing a big trailer can be tricky. Make sure you have a good brake controller installed too.

I don’t have one yet. I’ll need to get that sorted out.

Honestly, you might be better off with a 3/4-ton truck for something that heavy. Just saying.

Yeah, I’ve thought about that too. I usually use a truck, but the Suburban is more convenient sometimes.
