Trade 07 TBSS 120k miles for 02 Tahoe 166k? Thoughts?

Some things have come up and I’m a bit strapped for cash lately. My 07 TBSS has been giving me trouble—it’s from the Midwest, so it’s pretty rusty. I need suspension work and have broken manifold bolts to deal with. I found a clean 02 Tahoe with 166k miles (used to own an 04, best truck I’ve had) and I’m thinking about trading my SS for it. I’d get a couple grand on top of the Tahoe. Am I being stupid to consider this trade?

Honestly, I wouldn’t call it stupid if the TBSS is becoming more of a money pit, especially with the rust and repairs. Plus, if you get some cash on top with the trade, that could really help. But be sure to check out the Tahoe’s history and condition before pulling the trigger.

Yeah, the rust and repairs are definitely adding up. I think that extra cash would help me out, but I’ll definitely look over the Tahoe carefully before making any decisions.

If the Tahoe is as clean as you say and you get some money with it, it doesn’t sound like a bad deal. The miles are higher, but if it’s in better shape than your TBSS and it’ll save you some money on repairs, it could be worth it.

That’s what I’m thinking. I’d miss the SS for sure, but if the Tahoe is in better shape, it might be the smarter move right now.

Have you considered just selling the SS outright? You might get more cash to put toward something else instead of trading it.

I’ve thought about it, but I haven’t had much luck with offers so far. The rust and repair needs are making it hard to sell for what I’d want. That’s why the trade seems appealing.

Gotcha, that makes sense. If you’re not getting good offers, a trade plus some cash might be the best way to go.

As long as you’re aware of the potential downsides of higher miles on the Tahoe, I think it’s worth considering. The extra money would be useful, and if the Tahoe’s in better shape overall, it could be a solid trade.

Yeah, I’m definitely weighing the higher mileage, but if it’s clean and running well, I think it might be a better option for me right now. Thanks for the input!
