Hey guys, quick question, I’ve got a 2015 Chevy Malibu with a 1.5T engine, and I’m wondering what octane levels are recommended for it. I’ve heard different opinions on this, so I’m curious to know what you all think. I want to make sure I’m using the right fuel to keep my Malibu running smoothly.

The default spark calibration is designed for 87 octane fuel. However, since the engine is equipped with a knock sensor, using higher octane fuel can offer minor enhancements in both performance and fuel efficiency. There are no drawbacks to using higher octane fuel except for the higher cost.

I own a '17 and have consistently used mid-grade (89) fuel. It seems opinions are split 50/50 between 87 and 93 octane, so I decided to compromise and end up being wrong either way.
