What Does Code 82 Mean in Chevy Spark?

Hey all Chevy Spark owners, I just hopped in my Spark and saw this weird “code 82” message on the dashboard. Never seen that before! My trusty Spark has always been reliable, so I’m a bit worried. Anyone know what code 82 means on a Chevy Spark? Is it something serious? Should I pull over right away and call a tow truck?

Hoping it’s a simple fix, but any insights would be greatly appreciated…

Be at ease @ethan_johnson ! There isn’t anything wrong with the code 82 on your Chevy Spark dashboard. It’s simply your car’s way of telling you when an oil change is necessary, which should happen about every 7,500 miles. You can continue driving for a while, but to keep your engine operating smoothly, get the oil changed soon. It’s possible that the mechanic reset the reminder incorrectly if you recently had an oil change. Usually, you may reset it on your own by following the owner’s manual’s instructions.

This is actually well explained.

But @ethan_johnson if you need to reset the code, follow these steps:

  • Turn your key to the on position.
  • Press the menu button until you reach the “oil life” option.
  • The words “reset” will appear, select it to reset the code.

Remember, changing the oil first and then resetting the code is the best practice.

Code 82 on a Chevy Spark indicates that it’s time for an oil change. It’s a helpful reminder from your vehicle, not a sign of a serious issue.

You can keep driving safely, but it’s best to schedule an oil change soon to ensure your Spark continues to run smoothly.

There’s no need to call a tow truck.
