What exact engine is this?

Does anyone know the engine model and if it requires a specific clutch?

It has a 6.3L engine, Holley Carburetor, and Edelbrock intake and heads. The expected output is 490 horsepower. The torque was too much for the 270mm organic Birkbeck clutch. A 1960 Jaguar C-Type Replica was swapped in.

If it’s a 6.3, it’s a 383 small block Chevy. Google SBC prefix and casting numbers, and you’ll see where to look to find the numbers that will date the block. 383 isn’t a factory engine.

To clarify, these days there are myriad options for factory-built crate motors in 383 ci., but it was never offered as a factory original displacement in any GM vehicle. The ‘383 Stroker’ is achieved by marrying the crank and rods from a 400 with the block and pistons from a 327 or 350, and it’s been popular since the '70s.

@Ali
Yeah true, I forgot about the Chevrolet 383 crate engines. I’m in the UK, so they’re not that common here. People tend to have them built or get a Blueprint one from a dealer.

It’s a small block Chevy for sure. If it’s 6.3L, it left the factory as a 350.

Could be just a 350. Could be a 377 or could be a 383 as mentioned. Who said it was a 6.2? Either way, it looks nice. Good luck.

I finally found the engine code, it’s a 5.7L GM57LG SGT. The Edelbrock Stroker Kit increases the displacement to 6.32.

@Rex
Was it bored 0.30 over?

I don’t think so, the Stroker kit contains new heads, connecting rods, etc.

Definitely a SBC 350, possibly more.
